Case of the Month - the Case of the Missing Progesterone

We have been so blessed to have met and worked with Vicki, a WONDERFUL Old English Sheepdog Breeder. She brought us Seega, her 4 year old bitch who had been bred twice but had never carried a litter to term. Both times, Vicki felt certain she had conceived but low and behold, there were never any puppies to show for it.  Long story short, she selected Seega a new beau, to have semen to be shipped to us. But things do not always work out as planned, so at the last minute, Vicki had a friend in the breed step up and offer her stud dog as a substitute.

We confirmed Seega pregnant 24 days after her surgical insemination. After that, we monitored her on bi-weekly progesterone levels and weekly ultrasounds. She received 2 injections of progesterone a week  and low and behold, her belly got bigger and bigger. Yet Vicki refused to relax and let herself get excited that she was about to have puppies as she just didn't believe this could have a happy ending.

Finally day 62 came from the date of Seega's breeding. Vicki's friends and our staff gathered to bring 7 BEAUTIFUL puppies into the world.  At our recent staff meeting, Vicki allowed us a chance to romp with her wonderful litter under the trees on a warm summer day. Life at a Veterinary Hospital just doesn't get any better than this! - the chance to bring fertility to the life of a very deserving group of dog fanciers. Please contact us if you have any questions.
