More Information

We try to anticipate questions you might have about our Semen Freezing and Stud Dog Management and provide the answers here. If you need additional information please send email to trish@charter.net or blsac@charter.net.
1.

My dog has been diagnosed with a problem with his prostate. Do I have to neuter him?

Answer: NO, usually not. Most prostate disease in the dog is BPH, Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy. If you have a dog who is valuable in your breeding program, medications can be given to spare the dog from being neutered and you can usually still use him for a stud dog when on the medications.

2.

What is Brucellosis and how do I test for it?

Answer: Brucella canis or the disease it causes, Brucellosis, is a bacterial disease for which there is no cure and humans can contract from dogs. Because of it’s serious nature, testing is recommended before each natural breeding or semen collection. More information can be found at:  http://www.ivis.org/advances/Infect_Dis_Carmichael/shin/chapter_frm.asp?LA=1

A simple, in-office blood test can be run in about 30 minutes to assure your dogs are safe to breed.
